Photoshop CS2 RAW: Using Adobe Camera Raw, Bridge, and Photoshop to Get the Most out of Your Digital

Photoshop CS2 RAW: Using Adobe Camera Raw, Bridge, and Photoshop to Get the Most out of Your Digital Camera by Mikkel Aaland
Publisher: O'Reilly Media, Inc. | Number Of Pages: 224 | Publication Date: 2006-03-15 | ISBN-10: 0596008511 | PDF | 20 Mb

The RAW file format is the uncompressed data file captured by a digital camera's electronic sensor. When your camera saves an image in RAW format, settings like white balance, sharpening, contrast and saturation are not applied to the image but are saved instead in a separate header. Because RAW files remain virtually untouched by in-camera processing, they are essentially the digital equivalent to exposed but undeveloped film.
This makes RAW an increasingly popular format with amateur and professional digital photographers, because it affords greater flexibility and control during the editing process-if you know how to work with RAW files.

Most digital camera manufacturers supply their own software for converting RAW data, as do some third party vendors. Increasingly, however, the RAW converter of choice is a plug-in included in the latest version of Adobe Photoshop, the most popular and widely-used digital image editing tool in the world. Adobe Photoshop CS2 is emerging as the best place to edit RAW images, and the best way to master this new format is with Photoshop CS2 RAW.

An important book dedicated to working with RAW in Photoshop, this comprehensive guide features a unique design that helps readers grasp the subject through visual instruction and prompts. The entire RAW process is explored, from shooting to using the Adobe plug-in converter and new Bridge navigation software. The primary focus of Photoshop RAW is, as the title suggests, Photoshop editing technique: automating RAW workflow, correcting exposures, extending exposure range, manipulating grayscale and working with the new DNG (Digital Negative) open standard that Adobe supports.

Presented by photographer Mikkel Aaland, a pioneer of digital photography and author of eight books, including O'Reilly's Photoshop for the Web and the award-winning Shooting Digital, Photoshop CS2 RAW investigates and instructs in an accessible visual style. Required reading for professionals and dedicated photo hobbyists alike.

Shannon R. Kyles,"AutoCAD Workbook for Architects and Engineers"
Wiley (9-2008) | PDF | 296 pages | ISBN:140518096X | 21.7Mb(rar)

This practical step-by-step guide - designed for use at your computer - gives clear, compact instructions and self-test exercises to help you learn 2-D drawing using AutoCAD. The text is written for use on all AutoCAD releases from 2000 to 2008.
Computer-aided drawing is a skill that every student in architecture, engineering, the trades and construction must learn – and ideally at the computer, actually drawing things.

AutoCAD is the most widely used package in the industry but existing teaching books tend to be too wordy and focus more on technical wizardry than on how to deliver actual finished drawings using industry drafting protocols.AutoCAD Workbook gives you the skills you need for the full range of drawing types using a wide variety of commands and sequences. Each chapter - or teaching module – contains a brief introduction to the commands, explaining exactly how each one can be used, and plenty of exercises to demonstrate how to produce everything from working drawings to presentation drawings; and orthographic projection to pictorial views. Examples include residential and commercial buildings for architects and designers; steel and concrete details for civil and structural engineering; mechanical parts and assemblies for mechanical engineering; and millwork and cabinet-making for woodworking applications.

QuickTime for Java: A Developer’s Notebook [New links]

QuickTime for Java: A Developer's Notebook by Chris Adamson
January 14, 2005 | ISBN-10: 0596008228 | CHM | 2,4 Mb | 255 pages

QuickTime Java (QJT) is a terrific multimedia toolkit, but it's also terrifying to the uninitiated. Java developers who need to add audio, video, or interactive media creation and playback to their applications find that QTJ is powerful, but not easy to get into. In fact, when it comes to class-count, QuickTime Java is nearly as large as all of Java 1.1.

Once you learn the entire scope of Apple's QuickTime software, you really appreciate the problem. At its simplest, QuickTime allows Mac and Windows users to play audio and video on their computers. But QuickTime is many things: a file format, an environment for media authoring, and a suite of applications that includes browser plug-ins for viewing media within a web page, a PictureViewer for working with still pictures, QuickTime Streaming Server for delivering streaming media files on the Internet in real time, and QuickTime Broadcaster for delivering live events on the Internet. Among others. As if that weren't daunting enough, the javadocs on QJT are wildly incomplete, and other books on the topic are long out of date and not well regarded, making progress with QTJ extremely difficult. So what can you do? Our new hands-on guide, QuickTime Java: A Developer's Notebook, not only catches up with this technology, but de-mystifies it. This practical "all lab, no lecture" book is an informal, code-intensive workbook that offers the first real look at this important software. Like other titles in our Developer's Notebook series, QuickTime Java: A Developer's Notebook is for impatient early adopters who want get up to speed on what they can use right now. It's deliberately light on theory, emphasizing example over explanation and practice over concept, so you can focus on learning by doing.
QuickTime Java: A Developer's Notebook gives you just the functionality you need from QTJ. Even if you come to realize that 95% of the API is irrelevant to you, this book will help you master the 5% that really counts.
